From Romantic realism to naturalism. The great age of French fiction seen through the novels of Stendhal, Balzac, Hugo, George Sand, Flaubert, and Zola. Topics may include revolution in the novel, the heroine's plot, idealism and realism.Recommendations: FR 31 and 32, or permission of instructor.
