Course Description

This course is for students who have achieved basic painting skills and want to further their abilities, interests and projects at the intermediate or advanced level. You will begin by sharing your previous work and goals and will receive ongoing personalized feedback from the instructor with input from other students. The class covers painting techniques, archival issues, color complexities, composition, meaning and content. You will look at the work of professional painters and learn to think about your work in relation to these “mentors.” Sessions will begin with a half hour mini lesson/slide lectures to present artists from various places and times who will illuminate issues relevant to your work.  After the lesson each student receives focused time to discuss their week’s work as others listen in, sometimes adding supportive commentary while working in their own studios.

Level: intermediate-advanced.
