Course Description

This course is equally intended for students interested in a pure digital approach, and those who want to learn how the power of the computer can enhance and streamline a traditional workflow. Students will gain confidence in using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Corel Painter. Lectures will focus on technical instruction with a digital approach, and will also cover topics such as composition and color theory that can apply to any illustration medium. Through homework assignments, students will learn the importance of disciplined, practical working methods from concept to sketches to finished art. While the focus of the class will be on understanding and integrating digital tools into the illustrator’s toolbox, the class is open to students who prefer media of any type. In this seminar-style course, students will take part in group critiques, and individual needs will be accommodated. Level: intermediate. Prerequisites: an introductory illustration course or equivalent, and some drawing experience.
