Course Description

Explore figure drawing in a variety of ways. Working with charcoal, pastel, paint and collage, we will work to expand our understanding of observational drawing. Using both black and white and color, we will examine what it means to record what you see and how to interpret the figure in your own way. Drawing elements, including composition, size and scale, weight, volume, value, gesture and content will be discussed. We will look at drawings and paintings by various artists, including contemporary ones, to put the work we do in context. The class is a mixed level course that would be good for beginners as well as experienced artists.

Any materials necessary for the first class meeting will be communicated to enrolled students by the instructor in advance. Otherwise, materials and supplies will be covered in the first class meeting.
