Course Description

Build foundational drawing skills to serve as the basis for your illustrative works. Through in-class workshop assignments and at-home drawing exercises, students will learn the fundamentals of traditional figure drawing as well as novel techniques used by respected artists. Competencies covered include: composition, perspective, expressive light and shade and the creative use of reference. The course will include group critiques, examples of relevant artwork and demonstrations of tools, materials and techniques. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the basic tools of drawing, and proficient at the fundamentals of traditional drawing practices.

  • expressive light and shade

  • composition and perspective

This class meets in person on Tuesdays and online on Thursdays.

For online course meetings, access to a computer or other digital device and internet access are necessary for course participation. Any additional materials necessary for the first class meeting will be communicated to enrolled students by the instructor in advance.

This section is also open to rising high school students who are 11th or 12th grade students. High School students who enroll will be prompted to submit an additional application after enrollment including: a high school transcript, letter of recommendation, parental permission, and other required consent forms.
