Students in this course will explore the U.S. environmental movement by drawing from social movements scholarship and case studies like urban beekeeping, youth climate activism, and contemporary conservation. The course complicates the traditional understanding of what "counts" as environmental activism and asks students to grapple with the connections between the environmental movement of today and the environmental movement of the past. In addition, we will explore the connections between environmental justice, climate justice, and the broader environmental movement - paying particular attention to the relationship between power, inequality, and the natural world.

* This class has been approved as an Elective Seminar for Track II, III, IV and V. Applied ENVS majors can use it as Track II, III, IV, or V elective or as an Environmental Communication elective.
